Different Types of Bathtubs – How to Buy Bath Tub?

Are you looking for different types of bathtubs as you are planning either  to renovate or construct a new bathroom? There are many things that should be considered before purchasing a bathtub ranging from material, size, style, color, durability, price etc. Here we are trying to present the material perspective of bathtubs that will help you in purchasing the right product.

Any kind of bathtub is used more for relaxing yourself than bathing as in this you can soak yourself completely. At the same time the material of the bathtub should be durable, high in quality, slip, acid, mold resistant. Check out different available option of bathtub by material.

Bathtub By Material
Major types of bathtub by material are:
  • Acrylic Bathtubs
  • Porcelain Bathtubs
  • Gel Coated Bathtubs/Fiberglass Bathtubs
  • Cast Iron Bathtubs
  • Ceramic Bathtubs
  • Wooden Bathtubs
  • Cultured Marble Bathtubs
Acrylic Bathtubs
Acrylic is the most popular material that is used for making the acrylic bathtubs. For further strength these are reinforced with fiberglass. To make acrylic bathtubs, first of all large piece of plastic is taken, which is then warmed and stretched and given a required shape on the mold.

It is very light in weight and resistant to almost all kinds of chemicals. Also it is a great insulator as well as affordable. But by time its color starts to fade and it can scratches very easily.

Porcelain Bathtubs
If you are looking for something that is very strong then check the porcelain bathtubs. To make this bathtub first of all steel molds are made. Then porcelain enamel is applied over it. This is followed by the intense heating of the entire structure till it gets strong and non-porous.

Porcelain bathtubs are although light in weight but these are heavier than the above discussed acrylic bathtubs. Consider the gauge of steel while buying the porcelain bathtub as it defines the durability. A low quality porcelain bathtub generally cracks easily and then starts to rust on its exposed part.

Gel Coated Bathtubs/Fiberglas Bathtub
Appearance-wise it is very similar to acrylic bathtub. So you wont even notice a difference between these two. Difference between the two is actually the coating. Gel coated bathtubs are made from the mold and then these are sprayed with a gel generally a polyester resin. Then for extra strength it is given fiberglass coating.

This is quiet an affordable choice. You can have it in many designs, colors and shapes. But these are less durable than the above mentioned types of bathtubs. Gel coating can get scratches very easily and moreover the color fades over a period of time. But if you are person who loves change after few years then buy this as you can replace this very easily and that too in budget.

Cast Iron Bathtubs
These are the most expensive and rarest of all bathtubs. Molten iron is used for making cast iron bathtubs. These are the most durable bathtubs in the market and look-wise just fabulous. These also have a great insulating capacity so will keep you and your water warm. But on the other hand these are extremely heavy and get scratches by sharp objects.

Ceramic Bathtubs
Ceramic bathtubs are very heavy but looks good in bathroom can match with any kind of interior. On some of the ceramic bathtubs design with small mosaic ceramic tiles are made. This made then further expensive but very presentable. But this is a bit costlier project.

Wooden Bathtubs
Thinking that I am joking. No but you can actually have a wooden bathtub in your bathroom. Although it is great in looks but in comparison to other kinds of bathtubs it wont last for a longer period of time.

Cultured Marble Bathtubs
Marble is a very popular material for bathroom and kitchen. With regular cleaning marble actually has the sparkling effect. It is a natural stone that elegant in looks. Check out more http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2010/05/28/wood-viaggi-bathtub-by-maax.php.
